Prelude to Ubrique

In exactly two weeks I will be boarding a plane headed to Madrid, and will ultimately end up in Ubrique (Cadiz), Spain. Ubrique is a small town of about 18,000 in the province of Cadiz. It is one of the most beautiful "pueblos blancos" (white towns) in Southern Spain (Andalucia), and is situated at the foot of the Sierra de Ubrique. This small pueblo will be my home for the next 8 1/2 months as I will be teaching English at CEIP Fernando Gavilan (primary school). At the end of the school year (when my job expires), I will be trekking 800 km across Northern Spain for approximately 22 days following the ancient "Camino de Santiago." I am looking forward to the challenge, the beautiful scenery, and the time to reflect on and ponder the next steps of my life (law school?). I am thrilled to be moving to Spain, and am excited to share my adventures with all of you! Please stay tuned, and keep in touch!

Oooooh ASH! I forgot to mention that my good friend Hanley is studying this semester at the University of Cadiz, so if you're ever there (wherever it is) you could look her up and gush about how much you both love me! Hahahahaha no kidding, but it could be fun to have someone from the states (and the general northwest region) to meet for a drink! Later!

and don't forget to write!

Hi, Honey! I'm looking forward to hearing that you arrived safely in Spain. I hope the trip won't be too much of a drain. I viewed the video of Ubrique and it looks like the most wonderful place! I hope you'll have the time of your life, and that you'll stay safe. xoxoxo

What an amazing young woman you are; and what a fast paced 3 years you've had...away to college, a semester abroad, finishing your undergraduate program in only 3 years earning a dual major and the distinction, maxima cum laude; living in D.C. while working as a Senatorial Intern for the summer, and now you are on a plane somewhere over the Atlantic ocean headed to Ubrique, Spain. I am exhausted just thinking about what you've done! You never stop amazing me! I especially admire your new found skill “luggage maximization.” Your ability to pack everything but the kitchen sink into your luggage is worth a chapter in itself! WOW! I can only imagine the adventure, surprises and challenges that await you; specifically getting your luggage (all of it) on a bus that will eventually take you to the bus that will eventually take you to Ubrique. OMG! Have you thought about making a movie? LOL! I know that living in Spain is a dream come true and that you are excited and anxious to return to the people and the culture. But, while enjoying every moment of every day, and every adventure could you do Mom a favor…be safe, take care of yourself, and make wise decisions. Okay, Okay wise decisions don’t necessarily go along with fun and adventure, but humor me. I love you unconditionally forever and always and look forward to our next walking adventure…Mom (This is my first blog comment; I hope it is okay.)xxxoo
